a culture of beautiful excess

that just feels good coming off the tongue, beautiful excess. it swarms around us, fills us. it's decadence on a grand scale. in the hands of an individual it's shameful, something to be pitied. but taken up as the mantle of an entire generation it seethes with life. it's booze and music, sex, drugs and movies, even religion. it's our lifeblood.

does it mean that we're doomed to fall as did ancient rome? i think not, if we fall it'll be much greater, we'll plunge this world into a chaos so perfect that it'll take another evolutionary template to escape it. instead of falling i think we will rise. reach out with your minds and you can't help but feel a torrent around you. it's not only human emotions that are trying to escape from the pattern of living, it's the very world itself.

we want the same escape from human reality that previous generations turned their backs on. we seek the next great leap of ingenuity, but will we shy away from our lives of excess and take the same hollow victories as our parents?

She ionizes and atomizes
Then turns to sunlight
Flourescent lightbulbs will make
An absense of dark, but
The light just ain't there still and she said
"I'm feeling empty
The real lights can make you heavy but
Never ever really empty
Flourescent lights will always equal empty"

can't you taste it? it's like an orange on a cold winters night far from home.
